Some people are prepared to go to a lot of trouble cooking while they are on an overland trip while others prefer to keep it simple. To be honest, I couldn’t be bothered with recipes when I travel. Also, I find it best to travel as light as possible and keep the kitchen equipment compact. For me fancy cooking is something that I attempt at home.
Don’t travel without a good paper map
I simply cannot travel without a good paper map! I like the feel of a paper map and I also need it to orientate myself to ‘the bigger picture’. A GPS is an amazing device that can indicate your position to within 5m or navigate you to your destination. However, a GPS may give you tunnel vision as you usually look at a small screen zoomed in to see detailed information. What you must have in your First Aid Kit
When you travel into Africa you should always have a well-kitted first aid kit. Apart from special medication needs like chronic medicines for adults and paediatric medicines for children there are a few basic things that should be in every first aid kit. If you already have a first aid kit for travelling, don’t forget that medicines have a limited shelflife. Check the ‘use by’ date on each pack, and, if necessary ask your pharmacist for advice to ensure the contents of your kit remain effective and safe to use.
