Through keeping a record of our seven months overland journey from Cape Town to the hottest place on earth, the Danakil Depression in Ethiopia, we hoped to inspire fellow travellers to do similar overland trips. It is not necessarily easy, but we found, as have many other overlanders, that the most difficult part is making the decision to go!
Many people followed our trip during 2015 through the Tracks4Africa blog and requested that we publish the trip in book form. Destination Danakil does not only cover the trip, but also gives insight to a host of essential details to anyone wishing to make this sort of journey. These include visa advice, access to funds along the way, full statistics of the costs of the trip as well as choice of vehicle and kitting it out from scratch. It has happened to all of us! You have been looking forward to enjoying your bacon and egg brunch in camp before you set off for the day… only to find a big mess in your egg box. How to travel with eggs is one of those issues that most overlanders battle with.
Tracks4Africa is renowned for the reliability of our maps, especially off the beaten tracks, and people specifically marvel at the accuracy of the estimated travel times indicated on the maps. The T4A maps are compiled from GPS data submitted by the T4A community of travellers; people like you!
Travellers record their travel experiences and send it to T4A to process it in order to create a highly reliable GPS map which is also used on the T4A apps.
