The wind conducts a tinkling symphony, tapping lines against the masts, and I marvel at the interesting names as I walk down the jetty: Cape Dawn, Kind of Magic, Ariel, St Augustine, African Dream, Sea Born, Le Murls, Rosie Dry, Wind Song, Tenacity, Figaro, Sweet Waters and Maximillien to name a few. I realise that I have grown to love our marina since we sailed into Hout Bay with Moondust in October 2016…

Shortly after returning from our seven month trip to Ethiopia in 2015, Pete was reminded of his dream to go sailing. For me sailing was quite foreign as I grew up in the Transvaal and was never really exposed to it.  However, I am always up for adventure and so, when Pete asked if I would like to accompany him I didn’t have to think hard about joining him on an extended cruise. Tracks4Africa now on Ford’s navigation systems

Exciting news for overland travellers is that Tracks4Africa maps are now included as a standard map in the new Ford South Africa range of vehicles which are fitted with the SYNC 3 navigation system. The Ford Ranger (one of SA’s top selling vehicles) and Everest models were recently upgraded with the SYNC 3 system.

Johann Groenewald, Managing Director of T4A, is very excited about this development since it has been in the pipeline for some time. “Ford approached us two years ago about the possibility of including our maps into their in-car navigation system and early last year I was involved in testing our map on their system. The GPSMap 276 legend is back

Garmin recently relaunched its legendary GPSMap 276. Johann Groenewald, MD of T4A, tested the new version and found that it offered the same quality as its legendary predecessor, discontinued in 2009, plus much more…

‘I remember back to 2001 when I was given my first GPS by T4A founder Wouter Brand; a Garmin III, which resembled a Toblerone chocolate.  It was a solid little GPS but the battery was bad, the screen small and it could not store more than a day’s track.’ Continue reading The GPSMap 276 legend is back →
